1 Senate Resolution No. ____
2 A resolution acknowledging the invaluable
3 contributions Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.,
4 has made to the people of Florida, and
5 recognizing March 14-16, 2004, as "The 10th
6 Annual Delta Days at the Florida Capitol."

8 WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is a public
9 service organization founded in January 1913 by 22 outstanding
10 women at Howard University in Washington, D.C., and
11 WHEREAS, nearly 6 weeks after its founding, the first
12 public act of the Sorority was its participation in the
13 Women's Suffrage Movement demanding rights for women,
14 particularly the right to vote, and
15 WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is a
16 sisterhood of college-educated women committed to implementing
17 the sorority's mission through its Five Point Program Thrust:
18 Economic Development, Educational Development, Physical and
19 Mental Health, Political Awareness, and International
20 Awareness and Involvement, and
21 WHEREAS, this organization recently celebrated 91 years
22 of exemplary service and support to local communities, leading
23 dialogue on public policy issues, supporting quality
24 education, and producing new projects to stimulate current and
25 future economic growth, and
26 WHEREAS, with over 200,000 college-educated women and
27 over 950 chapters worldwide--47 chapters located in Florida
28 and the Bahamas--members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority are
29 clearly focused and visible as corporate and civic leaders,
30 productive public officials, acclaimed academicians, and
31 activists in their own right, and

1 WHEREAS, for the past 10 years, the Sorority's Florida
2 Chapters have conducted "Delta Days at the Florida Capitol" to
3 provide information to state legislators and government
4 executives which is vital to developing public policy; to host
5 a reception for state legislators and government executives;
6 and to monitor the progress of pending legislation related to
7 significant public policy issues, and
8 WHEREAS, on March 14-16, 2004, the members of the 47
9 Chapters of the Sorority that now serve Florida and the
10 Bahamas will converge on Tallahassee to conduct "The 10th
11 Annual Delta Days at the Florida Capitol," focusing on a theme
12 of Leadership, Advocacy, and Empowerment in taking social
13 action and delivering public services, NOW, THEREFORE,
14
15 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
16
17 That the Florida Senate commends Delta Sigma Theta
18 Sorority, Inc., for its contributions to the people of
19 Florida, and recognizes March 14-16, 2004, as "The 10th Annual
20 Delta Days at the Florida Capitol."
