2 A resolution recognizing the valuable
3 contributions made by the Girl Scouts of the
4 United States of America and recognizing March
5 7-March 13, 2004, as Girl Scout Week in
6 Florida.

8 WHEREAS, Friday, March 12, 2004, marks the 92nd
9 Anniversary of the founding of the Girl Scouts of the United
10 States of America by Juliette Gordon Low in 1912, and
11 WHEREAS, on March 16, 1950, the Girl Scouts became the
12 first national organization for girls to be granted a federal
13 charter by Congress, and
14 WHEREAS, throughout its long and distinguished history,
15 Girl Scouts - the preeminent organization for girls - has
16 inspired millions of girls with the highest ideals of
17 character, conduct, patriotism, and service to others so that
18 they may become model citizens in their communities, and
19 WHEREAS, some 50 million women have enjoyed the
20 benefits of the Girl Scouts program, as an American tradition,
21 for 92 years, and
22 WHEREAS, the State of Florida is home to more than
23 150,000 participants in the Girl Scouts program, and
24 WHEREAS, Girl Scouting will lead businesses and
25 communities to teach girls the skills needed to take active
26 roles in mathematics, science, and technology careers and to
27 meet our country's economic needs, and
28 WHEREAS, the Girl Scouts offers girls ages 5 through 17
29 years a variety of opportunities to develop strong values and
30 life skills and provides a wide range of activities to meet
31 girls' interests and needs, and

1 WHEREAS, through Girl Scouting, every girl, grows
2 strong, gains self-confidence and skills for success, and
3 learns her duty to the world around her, and
4 WHEREAS, through participation in the legislative
5 process, each participant in Girl Scouting will learn to use
6 her own voice to address an issue of concern to her and
7 perhaps make a change for the betterment of her community,
8 NOW, THEREFORE,

10 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
11
12 That the Senate congratulates the Girl Scouts
13 organization for its many accomplishments and recognizes March
14 7, 2004, through March 13, 2004 as Girl Scout Week in Florida.
