2 A resolution congratulating the W.S. Badcock
3 Corporation on the occasion of its 100th
4 anniversary.

6 WHEREAS, founded by Henry S. Badcock as a general
7 mercantile store, today's W.S. Badcock Corporation is the
8 oldest home furniture retailer in Florida and one of the
9 nation's largest, with its headquarters in Mulberry, where it
10 was established in 1904, and
11 WHEREAS, Mr. Badcock's business began to expand when,
12 during America's Great Depression, he shared his merchandise
13 with trusted friends in various locations, offering them a
14 percentage of any furniture they might sell, and thus giving
15 birth to the present dealership program employed by the
16 corporation, and
17 WHEREAS, today the Badcock Corporation has more than
18 330 home furnishing centers throughout the Southeast, more
19 than 270 of which are dealer owned and operated through the
20 company's consignment program, which provides total inventory
21 at no cost to the dealer and which has proven to be a
22 cornerstone of the firm's success, and
23 WHEREAS, for 100 years, Badcock has offered furniture
24 and home furnishings to middle-income America and, as it
25 stands at the threshold of its second century of operation,
26 the corporation continues to focus its services on "people who
27 are hard working and looking for value," NOW, THEREFORE,

1 That the Senate heartily congratulates the W.S. Badcock
2 Corporation on the occasion of its 100th anniversary and
3 extends its sincere wishes for continued success and
4 prosperity during its next 100 years.
5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
6 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Don
7 Marks, President and Chief Executive Officer of W.S. Badcock
8 Corporation, as a tangible token of the sentiments of the
9 Florida Senate.
