1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to road designations;
3 designating Captain Charles "Bo" Harrison
4 Memorial Highway in Pasco County; designating
5 Jerome A. Williams Memorial Highway in Putnam
6 County; directing the Department of
7 Transportation to erect suitable markers;
8 providing an effective date.

10 WHEREAS, Captain Charles "Bo" Harrison served as a law
11 enforcement officer in Pasco County for over 30 years and was
12 the first ever and highest ranking African-American officer to
13 serve in the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, and
14 WHEREAS, Captain Harrison was a member of the F.O.P.,
15 the Association of Deputy Sheriffs, Inc., and the P.S.O.
16 Legion for the Recruitment of Minorities, and
17 WHEREAS, Captain Harrison often assisted children by
18 helping to pay for books and other education-related expenses,
19 including one student's tuition for the Law Enforcement
20 Academy, and
21 WHEREAS, Captain Harrison was a very active member of
22 his church and sang in the church choir, and
23 WHEREAS, shot in the back while seated in his patrol
24 car on June 1, 2003, Captain Harrison became the first Pasco
25 County officer in over 80 years to be killed in the line of
26 duty, and
27 WHEREAS, Captain Harrison is survived by three loving
28 and devoted children as well as a community grateful for his
29 dedicated years of service and ultimate sacrifice, NOW,
30 THEREFORE,

1 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

3 Section 1. Captain Charles "Bo" Harrison Memorial
4 Highway designated; department to erect suitable markers.--
5 (1) That portion of U.S. Highway 301 in Pasco County,
6 northbound and southbound, is designated as "Captain Charles
7 'Bo' Harrison Memorial Highway."
8 (2) The Department of Transportation is directed to
9 erect suitable markers designating Captain Charles "Bo"
10 Harrison Memorial Highway as described in subsection (1).
11 Section 2. Jerome A. Williams Memorial Highway
12 designated; Department of Transportation to erect suitable
13 markers.--
14 (1) That portion of U.S. Highway 17 in Putnam County
15 from Crescent City south to the border at Volusia County is
16 designated as "Jerome A. Williams Memorial Highway."
17 (2) The Department of Transportation is directed to
18 erect suitable markers designating Jerome A. Williams Memorial
19 Highway as described in subsection (1).
20 Section 3. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
21 law.

26 The CS designates a portion of U.S. Highway 17 in Putnam
