2 A memorial to the Congress of the United States
3 urging Congress to pass H.R. 3190 and S. 1558
4 and to propose, for ratification by the states,
5 an amendment to the United States Constitution
6 that would preclude any prohibition or
7 limitation on the recital or display of
8 historical verses, mottos, or documents
9 referencing God in any public place.

11 WHEREAS, the 108th Congress has introduced in the
12 United State House of Representatives H.R. 3190, the
13 "Safeguarding Our Religious Liberties Act," and
14 WHEREAS, the Florida Senate requests all members of the
15 United States House of Representatives representing the State
16 of Florida to cosponsor H.R. 3190, and
17 WHEREAS, the 108th Congress has introduced in the
18 United States Senate S. 1558, the "Religious Liberties
19 Restoration Act," and
20 WHEREAS, the Florida Senate requests United States
21 Senators Bob Graham and Bill Nelson, representing the State of
22 Florida, to cosponsor S. 1558, and
23 WHEREAS, the Florida Senate encourages the United
24 States Senate and the United States House of Representatives
25 to propose, for ratification by the states, an amendment to
26 the Constitution of the United States to read that nothing in
27 the Constitution shall be construed to prohibit or otherwise
28 limit the practice of individual or group prayer, the reading
29 or posting of the Ten Commandments, the recital of the Pledge
30 of Allegiance, and the display of the motto "In God We Trust"
31 or similar phrases from historical documents referencing God

1 in any public place, including a school; nor shall it require
2 any person to join in prayer or other religious activity, NOW,
3 THEREFORE,

5 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

7 That the Congress of the United States is encouraged to
8 pass H.R. 3190 and S. 1558 and to propose, for ratification by
9 the states, an amendment to the United States Constitution
10 that would preclude any prohibition or limitation on the
11 recital or display of historical verses, mottos, or documents
12 referencing God in any public place.
13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
14 dispatched to the President of the United States, to the
15 President of the United States Senate, to the Speaker of the
16 United States House of Representatives, and to each member of
17 the Florida delegation to the United States Congress.
