1 Senate Resolution No. ____
2 A resolution commending the Florida Marlins for
3 their outstanding 2003 baseball season and
4 victory in the 2003 World Series.

6 WHEREAS, the staffing brilliance of General Manager
7 Larry Beinfest throughout the 2003 Major League Baseball
8 Season enabled the Florida Marlins to rise from the obscurity
9 of second-division standing to championship form, acquiring
10 key players at critical moments during the season to
11 facilitate an incredible finish at season's end, and
12 WHEREAS, under the leadership of Manager Jack McKeon,
13 the Marlins won more games than they lost, rising above .500,
14 becoming a first-division team, and defeating six other
15 contenders to earn a Wild Card berth in the National League's
16 2003 East Division Championship Series, and
17 WHEREAS, after losing the opener in the five-game East
18 Division Championship Series to the San Francisco Giants, the
19 Marlins won the next three games, two of which were emotional
20 thrillers at home, winning the Series and propelling them into
21 the National League Division Championship Series against the
22 West Division Championship Chicago Cubs, and
23 WHEREAS, after narrowly winning the opener of the
24 seven-game National League Division Championship Series
25 against the Cubs, the Marlins lost the next three games, but
26 grittily rebounded to win the final three games, claim the
27 National League Pennant, and become the opponent of the New
28 York Yankees in the 2003 World Series, and
29 WHEREAS, after winning a close game in the opener of
30 the World Series, the Florida Marlins lost the next two games,
31 but confidently rebounded to convincingly win the next three

1 games, beating the Yankees in four of six games, to win the
2 2003 World Series and become the Champions of Major League
3 Baseball, NOW, THEREFORE,

5 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

7 That the players, owners, managers, and coaches of the
8 Florida Marlins are commended for their competitive excellence
9 in winning the National League Pennant and convincingly
10 defeating the New York Yankees in the 2003 World Series to
11 become the Champions of Major League Baseball.
12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
13 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to David
14 Samson, President of the Florida Marlins, as a tangible token
15 of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
