  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing March 17, 2004, as

  3         "Rollins College Day" in Florida.

  4  

  5         WHEREAS, Florida's oldest privately endowed college,

  6  Rollins College, was founded in 1885 in Winter Park, Florida,

  7  and

  8         WHEREAS, since its inception, Rollins College has

  9  emphasized the highest quality of liberal arts education and,

10  since the 1920's, has developed a rich tradition for

11  introducing innovations in liberal arts education, and

12         WHEREAS, the current President of Rollins College, Dr.

13  Rita Bornstein, who is completing her 14th and final year at

14  that post, has led the College to national prominence as an

15  institution of higher learning which excels in liberal arts

16  education, resulting in record enrollments, with 3,829

17  students now pursuing degrees in 35 undergraduate and 7

18  graduate fields of study, and

19         WHEREAS, under Dr. Bornstein's dynamic leadership,

20  Rollins College has for nine consecutive years been ranked

21  first in Florida and second among colleges and universities in

22  the South in the annual rankings of America's Best Colleges,

23  published by U.S. News & World Report, and

24         WHEREAS, Forbes magazine recently ranked Rollins

25  College's Crummer Graduate School of Business 12th among the

26  top 25 business schools nationwide, and

27         WHEREAS, the outstanding academic achievements and

28  invaluable public service activities of administrators,

29  faculty, students, and graduates, many of whom have served or

30  now serve as appointed or elected public officials, have

 1  brought great honor to those who reside in the City of Winter

 2  Park, Orange County, and the State of Florida, NOW, THEREFORE,

 3  

 4  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

 5  

 6         That the Florida Senate recognizes March 17, 2004, as

 7  "Rollins College Day" in Florida.

 8         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

 9  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Dr. Rita

10  Bornstein as a tangible token of the sentiments of the Florida

11  Senate.
