2 A resolution commending Team Kobayashi of Cape
3 Coral, Florida, for winning the Silver Medal in
4 the Collective Performance Division of the 2003
5 USA National Karate-Do Federation Tournament.

7 WHEREAS, Team Kobayashi of Cape Coral, Florida,
8 composed of students aged 5 to 47 years, competed in the USA
9 National Karate-Do Federation Tournament in San Jose,
10 California, on July 25, 2003, and earned 38 medals and won the
11 Silver Medal in the Collective Performance Division of the
12 competition, and
13 WHEREAS, Team Kobayashi competed in the USA National
14 Karate-Do Junior Olympics in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on
15 November 8, 2003, and earned 26 medals, including 9 Gold
16 Medals, 10 Silver Medals, and 7 Bronze Medals, and
17 WHEREAS, the coaches of the Team were Bernard Dougherty
18 and Yuki Dougherty, and the participating members of the team
19 were Pamela Calvert, Stephen Cross, Adrian Dougherty, Daichi
20 Dougherty, Miko Dougherty, Khoi Duong, Hollyanne Ebner, Erin
21 Hodson, Christian Jurney, Steven Lam, Cynthia Martin, Jerome
22 Martin, Neda Mustafa, Emanuel Paz, Max Peugues, Anthony
23 Rosado, Bencis Sanchez, Joseph Schilk, Grayson Sifrar, Chelsea
24 Spiro, Christopher Spiro, C.J. Spiro, William Staeb, Evan
25 Thompson, Sharon Thompson, Alex Wilson, and Zach Wilson, and
26 WHEREAS, the Team routinely performs free Karate
27 demonstrations in Cape Coral and Lee County to entertain and
28 promote good will for numerous organizations, such as the
29 American Cancer Society, the Kiwanis Club, the Westbay
30 Retirement Home, and St. Jude's Children's Hospital, and

1 WHEREAS, the team's civic activities and successes in
2 Karate competitions bring distinctive honor to the State of
3 Florida and its citizens, especially those who reside in Cape
4 Coral and Lee County, by exemplifying the responsible
5 citizenship and competitive excellence a group of young men
6 and women can attain by combining their talents and
7 disciplining themselves in work to excel in performing the art
8 of Karate, NOW, THEREFORE,

10 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
11
12 That Team Kobayashi of Cape Coral, Florida, is
13 commended for its outstanding accomplishments in competition
14 at the USA National Karate-Do Federation Tournament in San
15 Jose, California, and at the USA National Karate-Do Junior
16 Olympics in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and for its
17 responsible citizenship in routinely performing free Karate
18 demonstrations for community service organizations in and
19 around Cape Coral and Lee County.
20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
21 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Team
22 Kobayashi of Cape Coral, Florida, as a tangible token of the
23 sentiments of the Florida Senate.
