  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to display of flags in the

  3         Florida public K-20 education system; amending

  4         s. 1000.06, F.S.; requiring that the flag of

  5         the United States be displayed in each

  6         classroom; providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9  

10         Section 1.  Section 1000.06, Florida Statutes, is

11  amended to read:

12         1000.06  Display of flags.--

13         (1)  Every public K-20 educational institution that is

14  provided or authorized by the Constitution and laws of Florida

15  shall display daily the flag of the United States and the

16  official flag of Florida when the weather permits upon one

17  building or on a suitable flagstaff upon the grounds of each

18  public postsecondary educational institution and upon every

19  district school board building or grounds except when the

20  institution or school is closed for vacation, provided that,

21  if two or more buildings are located on the same or on

22  adjacent sites, one flag may be displayed for the entire group

23  of buildings.

24         (2)  The flag of the United States shall be displayed

25  in each public K-20 classroom.

26         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2004.
