  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the admission of students to

  3         state universities; amending s. 1007.261, F.S.;

  4         providing that a prospective student's chances

  5         of being admitted to a state university may not

  6         be improved by the fact that the student's

  7         parent attended that university; providing an

  8         effective date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11  

12         Section 1.  Subsection (11) is added to section

13  1007.261, Florida Statutes, to read:

14         1007.261  State universities; admissions of

15  students.--Each university board of trustees is authorized to

16  adopt rules governing the admission of students, subject to

17  this section and rules of the State Board of Education.

18         (11)  The fact that a prospective student's parent or

19  parents attended the state university to which the student

20  seeks admission may not be the basis for improving the

21  likelihood that the student will be admitted to that

22  university.

23         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2004.

27    Provides that a prospective student's chances of being
      admitted to a state university may not be improved by the
