2 A resolution recognizing March 31, 2004, as
3 "Hernando County Day" in Tallahassee.

5 WHEREAS, on February 27, 1843, the County of Hernando
6 was established and named after the Spanish explorer Hernando
7 DeSoto, and
8 WHEREAS, nestled in the central west coast of Florida
9 north of Tampa Bay, Hernando County was known to the Native
10 Americans as a Garden of Eden, and, with its vast rivers,
11 lakes, and streams, oyster beds, and inland forests, Hernando
12 County was truly a paradise, and
13 WHEREAS, as part of the 9-county Nature Coast, Hernando
14 County's mild temperatures are ideal for year-round outdoor
15 recreation where hunting, fishing, camping, paddling, birding,
16 and hiking are just a few of the numerous recreational
17 opportunities enjoyed by residents and visitors alike, and
18 WHEREAS, Hernando County's vast tracts of public land
19 have been preserved, including the Chassahowitzka National
20 Wildlife Refuge, the Chinsegut Hill National Wildlife Refuge,
21 the Withlacoochee State Forest, the Weeki Wachee Preserve, and
22 the PK Ranch, and
23 WHEREAS, construction, dairy and cattle production,
24 health care, manufacturing, tourism, electronics, forest
25 resources, and lime rock mining help to fuel the local
26 economy, and
27 WHEREAS, covering 478.3 square miles, the Hernando
28 County community's vision of growth includes the "Close to
29 Home, Room to Roam" philosophy for this transitioning
30 suburban-rural county, NOW, THEREFORE,

1 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

3 That March 31, 2004, be recognized as "Hernando County
