2 A resolution congratulating Baptist Hospital,
3 Inc., of Pensacola.

5 WHEREAS, Baptist Hospital, Inc., of Pensacola was
6 awarded the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality
7 Award by the President of the United States on March 9, 2004,
8 and
9 WHEREAS, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award
10 was established by an Act of Congress to raise awareness about
11 the importance of quality and performance excellence and is
12 named for the 26th Secretary of Commerce who saw quality
13 management as the key to America's prosperity and long-term
14 strength, and
15 WHEREAS, the Baldrige Award is the highest and most
16 prestigious of its type, with Baptist Hospital, Inc.,
17 receiving one of only seven such awards nationwide this year
18 and becoming only the second health care system ever to
19 receive the award, and
20 WHEREAS, to be considered for the Baldrige Award,
21 Baptist Hospital, Inc., was required to prove that it has a
22 world-class management system that fosters ongoing excellence,
23 as measured by criteria related to leadership, strategic
24 planning, process management, and results, and
25 WHEREAS, the Baldrige Award examiners undertook two
26 thorough reviews of the three facilities that compose Baptist
27 Hospital, Inc. - Baptist Hospital, Gulf Breeze Hospital, and
28 Baptist Medical Park, and
29 WHEREAS, as extraordinary an achievement as it is,
30 winning the Baldrige Award is incidental to the commitment of

1 Baptist Hospital, Inc., to being a great provider of health
2 care, and
3 WHEREAS, consistent with its commitment and mission as
4 a faith-based institution, the Baptist Health Care network has
5 achieved its objectives while providing over $118 million in
6 care for the needy, and
7 WHEREAS, as the first Florida-based organization, as
8 well as the first health care provider in the state, to
9 achieve the coveted Baldrige Award, Baptist Hospital, Inc., is
10 a model for its hospital neighbors in the community and across
11 the state, NOW, THEREFORE,

13 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
14
15 That Baptist Hospital, Inc., is commended for its
16 accomplishments in receiving the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige
17 National Quality Award and for its continuing commitment to
18 the community and those in need.
19
20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
21 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Al
22 Stubblefield, CEO of Baptist Health Care, as a tangible token
23 of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
