  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing April 1, 2004, as

  3         "Developmental Disabilities Awareness Day."

  4  

  5         WHEREAS, the Florida Developmental Disabilities

  6  Council, Inc., is the Florida entity charged by federal

  7  legislation to plan and advocate for programs that enable

  8  persons with developmental disabilities to achieve optimum

  9  independence and to promote innovative programs and practices

10  that improve the quality of life for these individuals, and

11         WHEREAS, the Florida Developmental Disabilities

12  Council, Inc., sponsors events such as DD Awareness Day to

13  provide a setting where other agencies and organizations can

14  offer information about services and products for persons with

15  disabilities and promote understanding about the challenges

16  and obstacles in the everyday lives of persons with

17  disabilities, and

18         WHEREAS, DD Awareness Day is an appropriate time to

19  recognize Florida's public policy accomplishments concerning

20  the needs of persons with disabilities and also to identify

21  the improvements to public policy that are needed to ensure

22  that appropriate services are obtained by all state residents

23  having developmental disabilities, NOW, THEREFORE,

24  

25  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

26  

27         That the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council,

28  Inc., is commended for promoting services for persons having

29  developmental disabilities and April 1, 2004, is recognized as

30  "Developmental Disabilities Awareness Day" in Florida.
