2 A resolution recognizing April 21, 2004, as
3 "Hillsborough County Day" in Tallahassee.

5 WHEREAS, Hillsborough County is a multicultural
6 community located midway along the west coast of Florida, the
7 home of the Cities of Tampa, Plant City, and Temple Terrace,
8 and
9 WHEREAS, the county is home to the University of South
10 Florida, Hillsborough Community College, and the Hillsborough
11 County School District, a charter district and the tenth
12 largest school district in the United States, with 194,123
13 students overall and over 19,200 students speaking more than
14 100 different languages and representing nearly 200 different
15 counties, and
16 WHEREAS, the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research
17 Institute anchors the burgeoning northeast medical corridor,
18 soon to be joined by the Johnnie B. Byrd, Sr., Alzheimer's
19 Center and Research Institute, and
20 WHEREAS, Hillsborough is the home of the nation's 29th
21 busiest airport and Florida's largest cargo port, and
22 WHEREAS, Hillsborough's farms produce over $627 million
23 in total annual sales, and
24 WHEREAS, the county's cultural facilities have an
25 annual economic impact of $402 million, and the county boasts
26 multiple historic districts and landmarks, and
27 WHEREAS, the county hosts multiple,
28 nationally-recognized sports teams and events, and
29 WHEREAS, the county is the home of MacDill Air Force
30 Base and the United States Central Command, and

1 WHEREAS, the county's environmental centerpiece is the
2 54-mile Hillsborough River, NOW, THEREFORE,

4 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
5
6 That April 21, 2004, is recognized as "Hillsborough
7 County Day" as the Senate celebrates the "Flavors of
8 Hillsborough" at the State Capitol.
