1 Senate Resolution No. ____
2 A resolution recognizing April 29, 2004, as
3 "Tallahassee Donation Awareness Day" and
4 encouraging Floridians to become part of the
5 Florida Organ and Tissue Donor Registry.

7 WHEREAS, the Florida Senate recognizes the
8 contributions made every day by families, members, donor
9 organizations, and private citizens in prolonging life and
10 improving the quality of life for fellow human beings through
11 organ and tissue donation, and
12 WHEREAS, the effectiveness of organ and tissue donation
13 depends upon government and private entities working together
14 to provide educational tools that encourage families and
15 individuals to make conscious choices about their lives, and
16 WHEREAS, in the United States more than 84,500
17 individuals are on the National Organ Donor Waiting List, and
18 WHEREAS, Florida currently has more than 3,000
19 individuals on the National Organ Donor Waiting List, and
20 WHEREAS, 18 people die each day due to a lack of
21 donated organs and tissues, and
22 WHEREAS, the Florida Senate recognizes the dedication,
23 selflessness, and contributions made by donor families who
24 choose to provide the ultimate "Gift of Life" so that others
25 might live, or enjoy an improved quality of life, NOW,
26 THEREFORE,

28 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

30 That April 29, 2004, is recognized as "Tallahassee
31 Donation Awareness Day" and all residents of this state are

1 encouraged to become part of the Florida Organ and Tissue
2 Donor Registry and contribute to the Florida Organ and Tissue
3 Donor Trust Fund in order to provide a higher quality of life
4 for others.
