2 A resolution honoring Dale Earnhardt and
3 recognizing April 29, 2004, as "Dale Earnhardt
4 Day."

6 WHEREAS, NASCAR racing legend Dale Earnhardt was born
7 April 29, 1951, in Kannapolis, North Carolina, and
8 WHEREAS, Dale Earnhardt won many stock car races at all
9 levels throughout Florida and many other states, and
10 WHEREAS, known as "The Intimidator," Dale Earnhardt
11 brought joy and motivation to his many fans throughout Florida
12 and the world through his phenomenal accomplishments as a
13 winner of a NASCAR-record seven Winston Cup championships, and
14 WHEREAS, Dale Earnhardt amassed 76 Winston Cup
15 victories during his prestigious career, and
16 WHEREAS, in his racing career spanning over 30 years,
17 Dale Earnhardt established a track record by winning 34 races
18 at Daytona International Speedway, and
19 WHEREAS, in his twentieth attempt, Dale Earnhardt did
20 win the 40th annual Daytona 500 in Daytona Beach, Florida, and
21 WHEREAS, as President of Dale Earnhardt Incorporated,
22 Dale Earnhardt claimed the NASCAR Busch Series Owner's
23 championship at Homestead-Miami Speedway in 1999 in Homestead,
24 Florida, and
25 WHEREAS, Dale Earnhardt was named "Driver of the Year"
26 on five occasions by the National Motorsports Press
27 Association, and
28 WHEREAS, not only an amazing sportsman and citizen,
29 Dale Earnhardt was also an exceptional man who inspired young
30 people throughout Florida and the world with his indomitable
31 character and determination, and

1 WHEREAS, on February 18, 2001, Dale Earnhardt was
2 tragically taken from this earth on the final lap of the
3 Daytona 500 in Daytona Beach, Florida, and
4 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to pay tribute to the life
5 of this extraordinary individual who meant so much to the
6 people of this state, NOW, THEREFORE,

8 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
9
10 That the Florida Senate welcomes Dale Earnhardt's
11 widow, Teresa Earnhardt, and other delegates of the Dale
12 Earnhardt Incorporated racing team to the Capitol and
13 recognizes April 29, 2004, as "Dale Earnhardt Day."
14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
15 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Teresa
16 Earnhardt as a tangible token of the sentiments of the Florida
17 Senate.
