An act relating to road designations; designating Captain |

Charles "Bo" Harrison Memorial Highway in Pasco County; |
4
|
directing the Department of Transportation to erect |
5
|
suitable markers; providing an effective date. |

|
WHEREAS, Captain Charles "Bo" Harrison served as a law |
8
|
enforcement officer in Pasco County for over 30 years and was |
9
|
the first ever and highest ranking African-American officer to |
10
|
serve in the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, and |
11
|
WHEREAS, Captain Harrison was a member of the F.O.P., the |
12
|
Association of Deputy Sheriffs, Inc., and the P.S.O. Legion for |
13
|
the Recruitment of Minorities, and |
14
|
WHEREAS, Captain Harrison often assisted children by |
15
|
helping to pay for books and other education-related expenses, |
16
|
including one student's tuition for the Law Enforcement Academy, |
17
|
and |
18
|
WHEREAS, Captain Harrison was a very active member of his |
19
|
church and sang in the church choir, and |
20
|
WHEREAS, shot in the back while seated in his patrol car on |
21
|
June 1, 2003, Captain Harrison became the first Pasco County |
22
|
officer in over 80 years to be killed in the line of duty, and |
23
|
WHEREAS, Captain Harrison is survived by three loving and |
24
|
devoted children as well as a community grateful for his |
25
|
dedicated years of service and ultimate sacrifice, NOW, |
26
|
THEREFORE, |

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |

|
|

|
Section 1. Captain Charles "Bo" Harrison Memorial Highway |
31
|
designated; department to erect suitable markers.-- |
32
|
(1) That portion of U.S. Highway 301 in Pasco County, |
33
|
northbound and southbound, is designated as "Captain Charles |
34
|
'Bo' Harrison Memorial Highway." |
35
|
(2) The Department of Transportation is directed to erect |
36
|
suitable markers designating Captain Charles "Bo" Harrison |
37
|
Memorial Highway as described in subsection (1). |
38
|
Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law. |
