| 8 | WHEREAS, Captain Charles "Bo" Harrison served as a law |
| 9 | enforcement officer in Pasco County for over 30 years and was |
| 10 | the first ever and highest ranking African-American officer to |
| 11 | serve in the Pasco County Sheriff?s Office, and |
| 12 | WHEREAS, Captain Harrison was a member of the F.O.P., the |
| 13 | Association of Deputy Sheriffs, Inc., and the P.S.O. Legion for |
| 14 | the Recruitment of Minorities, and |
| 15 | WHEREAS, Captain Harrison often assisted children by |
| 16 | helping to pay for books and other education-related expenses, |
| 17 | including one student's tuition for the Law Enforcement Academy, |
| 18 | and |
| 19 | WHEREAS, Captain Harrison was a very active member of his |
| 20 | church and sang in the church choir, and |
| 21 | WHEREAS, shot in the back while seated in his patrol car on |
| 22 | June 1, 2003, Captain Harrison became the first Pasco County |
| 23 | officer in over 80 years to be killed in the line of duty, and |
| 24 | WHEREAS, Captain Harrison is survived by three loving and |
| 25 | devoted children as well as a community grateful for his |
| 26 | dedicated years of service and ultimate sacrifice, NOW, |
| 27 | THEREFORE, |

| 29 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
| 30 |
|
| 31 | Section 1. Captain Charles "Bo" Harrison Memorial Highway |
| 32 | designated; department to erect suitable markers.-- |
| 33 | (1) That portion of U.S. Highway 301 in Pasco County, |
| 34 | northbound and southbound, is designated as "Captain Charles |
| 35 | 'Bo' Harrison Memorial Highway." |
| 36 | (2) The Department of Transportation is directed to erect |
| 37 | suitable markers designating Captain Charles "Bo" Harrison |
| 38 | Memorial Highway as described in subsection (1). |
| 39 | Section 2. Jerome A. Williams Memorial Highway designated; |
| 40 | Department of Transportation to erect suitable markers.-- |
| 41 | (1) That portion of U.S. Highway 17 in Putnam County from |
| 42 | Crescent City south to the border at Volusia County is |
| 43 | designated as "Jerome A. Williams Memorial Highway." |
| 44 | (2) The Department of Transportation is directed to erect |
| 45 | suitable markers designating Jerome A. Williams Memorial Highway |
| 46 | as described in subsection (1). |
| 47 | Section 3. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law. |
