A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to road designations; designating Captain
3Charles "Bo" Harrison Memorial Highway in Pasco County;
4designating Jerome A. Williams Memorial Highway in Putnam
5County; directing the Department of Transportation to erect
6suitable markers; providing an effective date.

8     WHEREAS, Captain Charles "Bo" Harrison served as a law
9enforcement officer in Pasco County for over 30 years and was
10the first ever and highest ranking African-American officer to
11serve in the Pasco County Sheriff?s Office, and
12     WHEREAS, Captain Harrison was a member of the F.O.P., the
13Association of Deputy Sheriffs, Inc., and the P.S.O. Legion for
14the Recruitment of Minorities, and
15     WHEREAS, Captain Harrison often assisted children by
16helping to pay for books and other education-related expenses,
17including one student's tuition for the Law Enforcement Academy,
18and
19     WHEREAS, Captain Harrison was a very active member of his
20church and sang in the church choir, and
21     WHEREAS, shot in the back while seated in his patrol car on
22June 1, 2003, Captain Harrison became the first Pasco County
23officer in over 80 years to be killed in the line of duty, and
24     WHEREAS, Captain Harrison is survived by three loving and
25devoted children as well as a community grateful for his
26dedicated years of service and ultimate sacrifice, NOW,
27THEREFORE,

29Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

31     Section 1.  Captain Charles "Bo" Harrison Memorial Highway
32designated; department to erect suitable markers.--
33     (1)  That portion of U.S. Highway 301 in Pasco County,
34northbound and southbound, is designated as "Captain Charles
35'Bo' Harrison Memorial Highway."
36     (2)  The Department of Transportation is directed to erect
37suitable markers designating Captain Charles "Bo" Harrison
38Memorial Highway as described in subsection (1).
39     Section 2.  Jerome A. Williams Memorial Highway designated;
40Department of Transportation to erect suitable markers.--
41     (1)  That portion of U.S. Highway 17 in Putnam County from
42Crescent City south to the border at Volusia County is
43designated as "Jerome A. Williams Memorial Highway."
44     (2)  The Department of Transportation is directed to erect
45suitable markers designating Jerome A. Williams Memorial Highway
46as described in subsection (1).
47     Section 3.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a law.
