3     Amendment (with directory and title amendments)
4     Remove line(s) 280 and insert:
5     Section 6.  Effective upon this act becoming a law,
6paragraph (b) of subsection (2) of section 1004.445, Florida
7Statutes, is amended to read:
8     1004.445  Johnnie B. Byrd, Sr., Florida Alzheimer's Center
9and Research Institute.--
10     (2)
11     (b)1.  The affairs of the not-for-profit corporation shall
12be managed by a board of directors who shall serve without
13compensation. The board of directors shall consist of the
14President of the University of South Florida and the chair of
15the State Board of Education, or their designees, 5
16representatives of the state universities, and no fewer than 9
17nor more than 14 representatives of the public who are neither
18medical doctors nor state employees. Each director who is a
19representative of a state university or of the public shall be
20appointed to serve a term of 3 years. The chair of the board of
21directors shall be selected by a majority vote of the directors.
22Each director shall have only one vote.
23     2.  The initial board of directors shall consist of the
24President of the University of South Florida and the chair of
25the State Board of Education, or their designees; the five
26university representatives, of whom one shall be appointed by
27the Governor, two by the President of the Senate, and two by the
28Speaker of the House of Representatives; and nine public
29representatives, of whom three shall be appointed by the
30Governor, three by the President of the Senate, and three by the
31Speaker of the House of Representatives.
32     3.  Upon the expiration of the terms of the initial
33appointed directors, all directors subject to 3-year terms of
34office under this paragraph shall be appointed by a majority
35vote of the directors. and
36     4.  The board may be expanded to include additional public
37representative directors up to the maximum number allowed.
38Additional members shall be added by a majority vote of the
39directors.
40     5.  Any vacancy in office shall be filled for the remainder
41of the term by majority vote of the directors. Any director may
42be reappointed.
43     Section 7.  Except as otherwise provided herein, this act
44shall take effect July 1, 2004.
