1 Senate Resolution No. ____
2 A resolution recognizing and commending Janiqua
3 Johnson for winning the 2003 Fitness Authority
4 National Championship in the Girls 14-15
5 Division.

7 WHEREAS, Janiqua Johnson, a Lee Middle School student
8 athlete, achieved first place in the 2003 Fitness Authority
9 National Championship in the Girls 14-15 Division at Miami,
10 Florida, and, in the process, broke national records in that
11 division for the standing long jump, lateral hops, the
12 100-yard dash, push-ups, jump rope, sit-ups, half-mile run,
13 vertical jumps, the flex-arm hang, and the shuttle run, and
14 WHEREAS, Janiqua diligently worked out at least 4 days
15 each week at the Shady Oaks Community Center in Fort Myers
16 under the direction of Coach LeDondrick Rowe and, after
17 winning the 2003 Fitness Authority State and Regional
18 Championships in the Girls 14-15 Division, was one of only 47
19 athletes to compete in the 2003 Fitness Authority National
20 Championships, and
21 WHEREAS, for her record-setting performances, Janiqua
22 will receive a $1,000 scholarship and an all-expense paid trip
23 to Washington D.C. to meet President George W. Bush at the
24 White House, and
25 WHEREAS, Janiqua's outstanding achievement demonstrates
26 the value of promoting physical education among school-age
27 children in this state and brings honor to the residents of
28 Fort Myers, Lee County, and the State of Florida, NOW,
29 THEREFORE,

31 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

1 That the Florida Senate recognizes and commends Janiqua
2 Johnson for her record-breaking performances in winning the
3 2003 Fitness Authority State, Regional, and National
4 Championships in the Girls 14-15 Division.
5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
6 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Janiqua
7 Johnson as a tangible token of the sentiments of the Florida
8 Senate.
