  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to bridge designation;

  3         designating the Skypass Bridge in the City of

  4         Riviera Beach as the L. E. Buie Memorial

  5         Bridge; directing the Department of

  6         Transportation to erect suitable markers;

  7         providing an effective date.

  8  

  9         WHEREAS, Louise E. Buie, was a resident of Riviera

10  Beach since 1961, and was a tireless champion of equal rights

11  until her death on December 2, 2003, and

12         WHEREAS, Louise E. Buie was a strong community leader

13  and held several leadership positions in the NAACP and the

14  Palm Beach Voters League, and

15         WHEREAS, Louise E. Buie was instrumental in opening

16  public facilities to all on an equal basis from Riviera Beach

17  to Miami, and

18         WHEREAS, Louise E. Buie participated in many

19  civil-rights marches, locally, statewide, and nationally,

20  including the March on Washington in 1963, and

21         WHEREAS, Louise E. Buie was a role model for dedication

22  to family, community, and helping others, NOW, THEREFORE,

23  

24  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

25  

26         Section 1.  L. E. Buie Memorial Bridge designated;

27  department to erect suitable markers.--

28         (1)  The Skypass Bridge (bridge number 930470) in the

29  City of Riviera Beach in Palm Beach County is designated as

30  "L. E. Buie Memorial Bridge."

 1         (2)  The Department of Transportation is directed to

 2  erect suitable markers designating the L. E. Buie Memorial

 3  Bridge as described in subsection (1).

 4         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

 5  law.

10  The CS designates the Skypass bridge (bridge # 930470) in the
