| 9 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
| 10 |

| 11 | Section 1. Subsection (13) of section 1003.43, Florida |
| 12 | Statutes, is amended to read: |
| 13 | 1003.43 General requirements for high school graduation.-- |
| 14 | (13) The Commissioner of Education may award a standard |
| 15 | high school diploma to honorably discharged veterans who started |
| 16 | high school between 1946 and 1950 and were scheduled to graduate |
| 17 | between 1949 1950 and 1955 1954, but were inducted into the |
| 18 | United States Armed Forces between June 1950 and January 1955 |
| 19 | 1954, and served during the Korean War prior to completing the |
| 20 | necessary high school graduation requirements. Upon the |
| 21 | recommendation of the commissioner, the State Board of Education |
| 22 | may develop criteria and guidelines for awarding such diplomas. |
| 23 | Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2004. |
