A resolution designating May 24, 2004, as "Aviation |

Maintenance Technician Day" in Florida. |

WHEREAS, in 1965, 9 years after his death at 87, a little- |
6
|
known participant in the birth of aviation was inducted by the |
7
|
United States Air Force Museum into the Aviation Hall of Fame |
8
|
and, as a further tribute, the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic |
9
|
Award has been established in his honor by which the Federal |
10
|
Aviation Administration recognizes persons with 50 years or more |
11
|
of aviation maintenance experience, and |
12
|
WHEREAS, born May 24, 1868, Charles Edward Taylor, often |
13
|
referred to as the "Unsung Hero of Aviation," is now recognized |
14
|
as the first aviation mechanic in powered flight, the man who |
15
|
built and maintained the engine of the Wright Brothers' craft |
16
|
that on December 17, 1903, changed the course of history, and |
17
|
WHEREAS, in the century since that historic event, |
18
|
countless individuals have followed in the footsteps of Charlie |
19
|
Taylor, applying their skills to the maintenance of planes that |
20
|
transport passengers and cargo, carry out daring rescue and |
21
|
humanitarian missions, and protect the skies over our nation, |
22
|
and |
23
|
WHEREAS, spurred by the Federal Aviation Administration, |
24
|
many states are electing to observe "Aviation Maintenance |
25
|
Technician Day" in an effort to focus well-merited attention on |
26
|
these vital members of the aviation industry who, largely |
27
|
unnoticed, work quietly behind the scenes, to ensure the |
28
|
viability and safety of the nation's aircraft, and |
29
|
WHEREAS, May 24, Charlie Taylor's birthday, has been chosen |
30
|
by the Federal Aviation Administration as an appropriate date on |
31
|
which to honor America's aviation maintenance technicians, and |
32
|
the Southern Region of the Administration, which includes eight |
33
|
southeastern states and the Caribbean, is urging an enthusiastic |
34
|
observance of Aviation Maintenance Technician Day, NOW, |

|
THEREFORE, |

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |

Florida: |

That the House of Representatives designates May 24, 2004, |

|
as "Aviation Maintenance Technician Day" in Florida and |
42
|
wholeheartedly joins the Southern Region of the Federal Aviation |
43
|
Administration in urging Floridians to express their gratitude |
44
|
to the state's own "unsung heroes of aviation," its aviation |
45
|
maintenance technicians. |
