5 | WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan, elected in 1980 as |
6 | the 40th President of the United States of America, served his |
7 | nation and indeed the entire world with uncommon integrity, |
8 | honor, and distinction, and |
9 | WHEREAS, following his first term in office, President |
10 | Reagan was reelected by three-fifths of the electorate, winning |
11 | in 49 of the 50 states, a record unsurpassed in the history of |
12 | American presidential elections, and |
13 | WHEREAS, rising from a humble background, President Reagan |
14 | was dedicated to an active social policy that resulted in |
15 | lowered crime and drug use in the nation's neighborhoods, and |
16 | his inauguration of a bold, bipartisan effort to restore |
17 | accountability and common sense to government led to |
18 | unprecedented economic expansion and opportunity for millions of |
19 | Americans, and |
20 | WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to the country's |
21 | armed forces contributed to the restoration of a sense of |
22 | patriotism and pride in America and her values and those |
23 | cherished by the free world and prepared the nation to meet 21st |
24 | century challenges; and his vision of "peace through strength" |
25 | led to the end of the Cold War and the ultimate demise of the |
26 | Soviet Union, resulting in the reinstatement of basic human |
27 | rights for millions of people, and |
28 | WHEREAS, born February 6, 1911, President Ronald Reagan, |
29 | unarguably one of the great figures of the 20th century, has now |
30 | attained his 93rd birthday, NOW, THEREFORE, |

32 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |

35 | That the superlative character, commitment, and service of |
36 | Ronald Wilson Reagan, 40th President of the United States of |
37 | America, are acknowledged with genuine honor and gratitude, and |
38 | February 6, 2004, is designated "Ronald Reagan Day" in Florida. |
