5 | WHEREAS, Ericka Dunlap, a native Floridian from Orlando and |
6 | a symbol of immense pride for her community, was crowned Miss |
7 | America 2004 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on September 20, |
8 | 2003, and thus began her one-year reign representing the best in |
9 | young American womanhood, and |
10 | WHEREAS, a graduate of Boone High School and a senior at |
11 | the University of Central Florida, Miss Dunlap is the recipient |
12 | of numerous scholarships and awards, her accomplishments are |
13 | many and varied, her ambition is to obtain a juris doctorate and |
14 | specialize in entertainment and sports law, and her platform as |
15 | Miss America is "Celebrating Cultural Diversity and |
16 | Inclusiveness," and |
17 | WHEREAS, Ericka's year of service includes touring the |
18 | nation participating in many charitable benefits and sharing |
19 | with countless organizations, businesses, community groups, and |
20 | schools her vision of diversity, and |
21 | WHEREAS, as the first reigning Miss America since the |
22 | Vietnam War to travel abroad to visit with the nation's deployed |
23 | armed forces, Ericka spent Thanksgiving 2003 with American |
24 | troops in Kuwait, cheerfully serving the holiday meal to some |
25 | who waited for as long as 45 minutes; and, during her tour of |
26 | several camps and the Kuwait Armed Forces Hospital, she chatted |
27 | and shared meals with and provided entertainment for troops who |
28 | viewed her time with them as a "great morale booster," and |
29 | WHEREAS, with a firm belief that "America's diversity is |
30 | its strength, a rich and endless source of experience, language, |
31 | custom, and tradition that enhances our nation and makes us |
32 | unique," Ericka Dunlap is committed to sharing the tools needed |
33 | for the peoples of this land to "move past mere tolerance |
34 | towards embracing the diversity in our communities and |
35 | establishing an awareness of inclusion," NOW, THEREFORE, |

37 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
38 | Florida: |

40 | That Ericka Dunlap is enthusiastically congratulated upon |
41 | having attained the title of "Miss America 2004" and is wished |
42 | utmost success and satisfaction in reaching the stated goals of |
43 | her most worthy platform. |
44 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
45 | presented to Ericka Dunlap, Miss America 2004, as a tangible |
46 | token of the sentiments expressed herein. |
