1	House Resolution
2	A resolution honoring Ms. Hazel Haley.
3
4	WHEREAS, Ms. Hazel Haley, Florida's longest-serving active
5	teacher, has spent nearly 63 of her 65 remarkable years as an
6	educator teaching English at Lakeland High School, and
7	WHEREAS, Ms. Haley, 86, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in
8	English from Florida Southern College in Lakeland and, after
9	teaching briefly at Oviedo and Moore Haven High Schools,
10	returned to her high school alma mater in Lakeland from which
11	she had graduated in 1933, and
12	WHEREAS, indicative of the esteem in which she is held as
13	one of the state's truly outstanding teachers, Ms. Haley is an
14	inductee into the Polk County Schools Hall of Fame and a
15	recipient of the Hollis Award for Community Service; there are
16	scholarships in her honor at both Florida Southern College and
17	Polk Community College; and a building on the Lakeland Senior
18	High School campus proudly bears her name, and
19	WHEREAS, in addition to her being dearly cherished by the
20	citizens of Polk County as their very own unique treasure, Ms.
21	Haley has gained renown far beyond the borders of her local
22	community and of her state, as evidenced by a recent two-day
23	classroom visit and interview by a reporter from the Times of
24	London in preparation for a feature story to appear in the
25	paper's weekly educational supplement on May 23, NOW, THEREFORE,

27	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
28	Florida:

30	That the House of Representatives is truly honored to
31	recognize and extend its sincere gratitude to Ms. Hazel Haley,
32	whose influence as a truly committed teacher has touched
33	thousands of lives in ways and numbers that cannot be reckoned.
34	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
35	presented to Ms. Hazel Haley as a tangible token of the
36	sentiments expressed herein.
