2	A resolution honoring Partners for Highway Safety.

4	WHEREAS, born out of the pain and heartbreak of parents
5	grieving over the loss of their only child, Partners for Highway
6	Safety was founded on September 18, 1992, in memory of Gregory
7	Paul Burris, whose life ended abruptly on May 9, 1992, less than
8	24 hours after his seventeenth birthday, and
9	WHEREAS, composed for the most part of parents, family
10	members, and friends who have been touched by the tragic loss of
11	a child to a traffic crash, Partners for Highway Safety is a
12	nonprofit youth traffic safety organization that strives,
13	through public awareness and education, to reduce injuries and
14	fatalities among teenagers as a result of automobile crashes,
15	and
16	WHEREAS, through innovative programs that are recognized as
17	fresh, unique, and effective, Partners for Highway Safety
18	stresses the importance of using safety belts, of proper
19	driver's training, and of personal responsibility for the
20	effects of intoxicating substances on the operation and control
21	of a vehicle, and
22	WHEREAS, a superlative example of the programs offered by
23	Partners for Highway Safety is the Collision Avoidance Training
24	program, or C.A.T., a two-day advanced defensive driving and
25	vehicle control program the objective of which is to enhance
26	young drivers' awareness of the complex task of operating a
27	motor vehicle and to learn and practice skills that will prepare
28	them to anticipate and handle hazards that occur daily in normal
29	driving conditions, and
30	WHEREAS, Partners for Highway Safety has received many
31	richly deserved state and national awards for its remarkable
32	success in reaching and modifying the attitudes of Florida's
33	teenage drivers, NOW, THEREFORE,

35	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
36	Florida:

38	That the House of Representatives recognizes Partners for
39	Highway Safety for its commitment to promoting good habits,
40	skills, and attitudes among the state's teenage drivers and
41	extends its heartfelt gratitude on behalf of all Floridians for
42	its truly outstanding accomplishments.
