| 3 | on the occasion of its 100th anniversary and designating |
| 4 | April 21, 2004, as "Badcock Day" in Florida. |

| 6 | WHEREAS, founded by Henry S. Badcock as a general |
| 7 | mercantile store, today's W.S. Badcock Corporation is the oldest |
| 8 | home furniture retailer in Florida and one of the nation's |
| 9 | largest, with its headquarters in Mulberry, where it was |
| 10 | established in 1904, and where, after 100 years, it is still a |
| 11 | family-owned business, and |
| 12 | WHEREAS, Mr. Badcock's business began to expand when, |
| 13 | during America's Great Depression, he shared his merchandise |
| 14 | with trusted friends in various locations, offering them a |
| 15 | percentage of any furniture they might sell, and thus giving |
| 16 | birth to the present dealership program employed by the |
| 17 | corporation, and |
| 18 | WHEREAS, today the Badcock Corporation has more than 330 |
| 19 | Badcock Home Furnishing Centers and Badcock Home Furniture & |
| 20 | More Centers throughout the Southeast, of which 142 are in the |
| 21 | State of Florida and more than 270 of which are owned and |
| 22 | operated by small business owners through the company's |
| 23 | consignment program which provides total inventory at no cost to |
| 24 | the dealer and which has proven to be a cornerstone of the |
| 25 | firm's success, and |
| 26 | WHEREAS, for 100 years, Badcock has offered furniture and |
| 27 | home furnishings to middle-income America and, as it stands at |
| 28 | the threshold of its second century of operation, the |
| 29 | corporation continues to focus its services on "people who are |
| 30 | hard working and looking for value," NOW, THEREFORE, |

| 32 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
| 33 | Florida: |

| 35 | That the House of Representatives heartily congratulates |
| 36 | the W.S. Badcock Corporation on the occasion of its 100th |
| 37 | anniversary, extends its sincere wishes for continued success |
| 38 | and prosperity during its next 100 years, and designates April |
| 39 | 21, 2004, as "Badcock Day" in Florida. |
| 40 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
| 41 | presented to Don Marks, President and Chief Executive Officer of |
| 42 | W.S. Badcock Corporation, as a tangible token of the sentiments |
| 43 | expressed herein. |
