House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing March 31, 2004, as "Hernando
3County Day" in Tallahassee.

5     WHEREAS, on February 27, 1843, the County of Hernando was
6established and named after the Spanish explorer Hernando
7DeSoto, and
8     WHEREAS, nestled in the central west coast of Florida north
9of Tampa Bay, Hernando County was known to the Native Americans
10as a Garden of Eden, and, with its vast rivers, lakes, and
11streams, oyster beds, and inland forests, Hernando County was
12truly a paradise, and
13     WHEREAS, as part of the 9-county Nature Coast, Hernando
14County's mild temperatures are ideal for year-round outdoor
15recreation where hunting, fishing, camping, paddling, birding,
16and hiking are just a few of the numerous recreational
17opportunities enjoyed by residents and visitors alike, and
18     WHEREAS, Hernando County's vast tracts of public land have
19been preserved, including the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife
20Refuge, the Chinsegut Hill National Wildlife Refuge, the
21Withlacoochee State Forest, the Weeki Wachee Preserve, and the
22PK Ranch, and
23     WHEREAS, construction, dairy and cattle production, health
24care, manufacturing, tourism, electronics, forest resources, and
25lime rock mining help to fuel the local economy, and
26     WHEREAS, stretching 478.3 miles, the Hernando County
27community's vision of growth includes the "Close to Home, Room
28to Roam" philosophy for this transitioning suburban-rural
29county, NOW, THEREFORE,

31Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
32Florida:

34     That March 31, 2004, be recognized as "Hernando County Day"
35in Tallahassee.
