House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing March 31 and April 1, 2004, as
3"Miami-Dade County Days."

5     WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is a center of world finance,
6with many financial institutions and foreign agencies within its
7boundaries, and
8     WHEREAS, Greater Miami-Dade County is the site of
9approximately 50 foreign consulates and numerous international
10trade offices and bi-national Chambers of Commerce, and
11     WHEREAS, the film and television industry has made Miami-
12Dade County one of the largest production centers in the nation,
13and
14     WHEREAS, agriculture continues to provide significant
15economic activity, and the industry has diversified such that
16Miami-Dade County is one of the largest producers in the United
17States of tropical fruits, ornamental plants, and fish, and
18     WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is experiencing a cultural boom
19in world-class entertainment and cultural activities, which is
20evidenced by the nonprofit cultural organizations offering
21dance, theater, music, and visual arts, and festivals and
22special events, and
23     WHEREAS, the Miami-Dade community is a microcosm of the
24world, in the number of countries represented, languages spoken
25daily, and languages taught in the community's schools, and is a
26hub from which nonstop flights take passengers to Latin America
27and the Caribbean, and at which trade flourishes in the
28continental United States port located closest to Africa, and
29     WHEREAS, it can be no overstatement that today Miami-Dade
30County is recognized as one of the world's most diverse, most
31exciting communities and is aptly referred to as the "Gateway of
32the Americas," NOW, THEREFORE,

34Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
35Florida:

37     That the House of Representatives is pleased to recognize
38Wednesday and Thursday, March 31 and April 1, 2004, as "Miami-
39Dade County Days."
