House Resolution
2A resolution commending the Florida Marlins, 2003 World
3Series Champions.

5     WHEREAS, the Florida Marlins made their debut in the City
6of Miami, Miami-Dade County, and the entire Miami area 11 years
7ago, and
8     WHEREAS, the Marlins have subsequently recruited a
9substantial number of outstanding players and coaches, achieving
10their first National League Championship against the Atlanta
11Braves before going on to win their first World Series
12Championship against the Cleveland Indians in 1997, and
13     WHEREAS, the 2003 Florida Marlins won the National League
14Division Series by defeating the San Francisco Giants on October
154, 2003, in three games out of four, then, having united South
16Florida in its support of the "Never-Say-Die Marlins," defeated
17the Chicago Cubs in the seventh game by coming from behind to
18win the final three games of the series, and
19     WHEREAS, on October 25, 2003, the Marlins outscored the New
20York Yankees 2-0 and became the first team to eliminate the
21Yankees in Yankee Stadium in the playoffs since 1981, and
22     WHEREAS, with that victory, the Florida Marlins won the  
23World Series to become the 2003 World Series Champions, NOW,
24THEREFORE,

26Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
27Florida:

29     That the House of Representatives salutes the Florida
30Marlins for winning the World Series and becoming the 2003 World
31Series Champions; for igniting, inspiring, and uniting South
32Florida; and for focusing the eyes of the world on the Miami
33area.
34     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
35presented to the Florida Marlins as a tangible token of the
36sentiments expressed herein.
