House Resolution
3A resolution designating April 20, 2004, as "F.S.U. Day"
4in Tallahassee.

6     WHEREAS, the Tallahassee campus of Florida State University
7is the oldest continuous site of higher education in Florida and
8holds the state's first chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, and
9     WHEREAS, in 1994, Florida State University joined an elite
10group of the nation's top research universities when it was
11designated by the Carnegie Foundation as a "Research I"
12institution, and
13     WHEREAS, Florida State University, a national leader in
14international education, with more than 40 years of experience
15abroad, now has 38 such programs, including the most recent
16summer program of study at Tianjin Foreign Studies University in
17the People's Republic of China, and
18     WHEREAS, Florida State University offers graduate and
19undergraduate degrees in 565 fields within 17 independent
20colleges and schools, its comprehensive offerings preparing
21students for graduate school, professional degree programs, and
22successful careers, and
23     WHEREAS, recognized as the most "wired" campus in the
24state, Florida State University is setting the standard for
25distance learning and for utilizing technology in the classroom
26as well as campuswide, and
27     WHEREAS, because of its long-standing tradition of
28promoting racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity on its campus,
29along with an aggressive recruitment from among many diverse
30groups, Florida State University's college experience proves to
31be one of continuing enrichment in the lives of its students,
32and     WHEREAS, during the 2003-2004 season, Coach Bobby Bowden
33completed his 28th year as head football coach of the Florida
34State University Seminoles and celebrated 339 victories to
35become the most winning coach in NCAA Division I-A history; and
36the school is nationally acclaimed for its superior athletic
37program, NOW, THEREFORE,

39Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
40Florida:

42     That the House of Representatives designates April 20,
432004, as "F.S.U. Day" in Tallahassee in recognition of the
44university's contributions as an outstanding institution of
45higher education.
46     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
47presented to Dr. T. K. Wetherell, President of Florida State
48University, as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed
49herein.
