6 | WHEREAS, the Tallahassee campus of Florida State University |
7 | is the oldest continuous site of higher education in Florida and |
8 | holds the state's first chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, and |
9 | WHEREAS, in 1994, Florida State University joined an elite |
10 | group of the nation's top research universities when it was |
11 | designated by the Carnegie Foundation as a "Research I" |
12 | institution, and |
13 | WHEREAS, Florida State University, a national leader in |
14 | international education, with more than 40 years of experience |
15 | abroad, now has 38 such programs, including the most recent |
16 | summer program of study at Tianjin Foreign Studies University in |
17 | the People's Republic of China, and |
18 | WHEREAS, Florida State University offers graduate and |
19 | undergraduate degrees in 565 fields within 17 independent |
20 | colleges and schools, its comprehensive offerings preparing |
21 | students for graduate school, professional degree programs, and |
22 | successful careers, and |
23 | WHEREAS, recognized as the most "wired" campus in the |
24 | state, Florida State University is setting the standard for |
25 | distance learning and for utilizing technology in the classroom |
26 | as well as campuswide, and |
27 | WHEREAS, because of its long-standing tradition of |
28 | promoting racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity on its campus, |
29 | along with an aggressive recruitment from among many diverse |
30 | groups, Florida State University's college experience proves to |
31 | be one of continuing enrichment in the lives of its students, |
32 | and WHEREAS, during the 2003-2004 season, Coach Bobby Bowden |
33 | completed his 28th year as head football coach of the Florida |
34 | State University Seminoles and celebrated 339 victories to |
35 | become the most winning coach in NCAA Division I-A history; and |
36 | the school is nationally acclaimed for its superior athletic |
37 | program, NOW, THEREFORE, |

39 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
40 | Florida: |

42 | That the House of Representatives designates April 20, |
43 | 2004, as "F.S.U. Day" in Tallahassee in recognition of the |
44 | university's contributions as an outstanding institution of |
45 | higher education. |
46 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
47 | presented to Dr. T. K. Wetherell, President of Florida State |
48 | University, as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed |
49 | herein. |
