House Resolution
2A resolution designating April 21, 2004, as "Epilepsy
3Awareness Day" in Florida.

5     WHEREAS, epilepsy is the nation's leading neurological
6disorder, and
7     WHEREAS, epilepsy can affect anyone, at any time, and at
8any age, and
9     WHEREAS, it is estimated that over 300,000 Floridians are
10affected by epilepsy, with nearly 18,000 new cases being
11diagnosed every year, and
12     WHEREAS, there are only 11 not-for-profit providers in
13Florida organized to serve the residents of all 67 counties who
14suffer from epilepsy, NOW, THEREFORE,

16Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
17Florida:

19     That the House of Representatives acknowledges the
20important role of not-for-profit providers in caring for
21Florida's growing epileptic population and the responsibility of
22the state concerning the care and treatment of this group.
23     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives
24wholeheartedly designates April 21, 2004, as "Epilepsy Awareness
25Day" in Florida.
