| 5 | WHEREAS, epilepsy is the nation's leading neurological |
| 6 | disorder, and |
| 7 | WHEREAS, epilepsy can affect anyone, at any time, and at |
| 8 | any age, and |
| 9 | WHEREAS, it is estimated that over 300,000 Floridians are |
| 10 | affected by epilepsy, with nearly 18,000 new cases being |
| 11 | diagnosed every year, and |
| 12 | WHEREAS, there are only 11 not-for-profit providers in |
| 13 | Florida organized to serve the residents of all 67 counties who |
| 14 | suffer from epilepsy, NOW, THEREFORE, |

| 16 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
| 17 | Florida: |
| 18 |
|
| 19 | That the House of Representatives acknowledges the |
| 20 | important role of not-for-profit providers in caring for |
| 21 | Florida's growing epileptic population and the responsibility of |
| 22 | the state concerning the care and treatment of this group. |
| 23 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives |
| 24 | wholeheartedly designates April 21, 2004, as "Epilepsy Awareness |
| 25 | Day" in Florida. |
