4 | WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., was founded at |
5 | Howard University in Washington, D.C., in 1908, and |
6 | WHEREAS, this Greek letter organization is the first |
7 | sorority established by African-American college women, and |
8 | WHEREAS, this sorority is an international organization |
9 | with approximately 200,000 members in over 900 chapters |
10 | extending across the United States, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Great |
11 | Britain, Germany, Korea, and the Virgin Islands, and |
12 | WHEREAS, many of these chapters are located in communities |
13 | and on college and university campuses in the State of Florida, |
14 | and |
15 | WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., is committed to |
16 | community service and has made numerous contributions to the |
17 | educational, civic, and social lives of Florida's citizens, and |
18 | WHEREAS, Linda White of Chicago, Illinois, is the National |
19 | President of this great sisterhood and leads the 200,000 women |
20 | of this organization in the current international program, "The |
21 | SPIRIT of AKA," the acronym and concept for Sisterhood, Service, |
22 | Partnership, Innovation, Respect, Involvement, and Technology, |
23 | and |
24 | WHEREAS, Representative Jennifer Carroll is a member of |
25 | Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and |
26 | WHEREAS, members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in the |
27 | State of Florida contribute thousands of volunteer hours |
28 | implementing service programs in their respective communities, |
29 | NOW, THEREFORE, |

35 | recognize the commitment of members of Alpha Kappa Alpha |
36 | Sorority, Inc., to community service and express special |
37 | appreciation for their service in the State of Florida. |
