House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

4     WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., was founded at
5Howard University in Washington, D.C., in 1908, and
6     WHEREAS, this Greek letter organization is the first
7sorority established by African-American college women, and
8     WHEREAS, this sorority is an international organization
9with approximately 200,000 members in over 900 chapters
10extending across the United States, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Great
11Britain, Germany, Korea, and the Virgin Islands, and
12     WHEREAS, many of these chapters are located in communities
13and on college and university campuses in the State of Florida,
14and
15     WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., is committed to
16community service and has made numerous contributions to the
17educational, civic, and social lives of Florida's citizens, and
18     WHEREAS, Linda White of Chicago, Illinois, is the National
19President of this great sisterhood and leads the 200,000 women
20of this organization in the current international program, "The
21SPIRIT of AKA," the acronym and concept for Sisterhood, Service,
22Partnership, Innovation, Respect, Involvement, and Technology,
23and
24     WHEREAS, Representative Jennifer Carroll is a member of
25Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and
26     WHEREAS, members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in the
27State of Florida contribute thousands of volunteer hours
28implementing service programs in their respective communities,
29NOW, THEREFORE,

31Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
32Florida:

34     That the members of the Florida House of Representatives
35recognize the commitment of members of Alpha Kappa Alpha
36Sorority, Inc., to community service and express special
37appreciation for their service in the State of Florida.
