2A resolution designating August 2004 as "Reflex
3Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome Month" in Florida.

5     WHEREAS, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome, also known
6as Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome, is a chronic condition
7characterized by severe, burning pain, pathological changes in
8bone and skin, excessive sweating, tissue swelling, and extreme
9sensitivity to touch, and
10     WHEREAS, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome, or RSDS, is
11most often the result of trauma to the extremities; however, it
12may also be a consequence of sprains, fractures, surgery, damage
13to blood vessels or nerves, and cerebral lesions, and
14     WHEREAS, not a rare disorder, all age groups are
15susceptible to RSDS, although it is more common in individuals
16between the ages of 40 and 60, particularly women, and in
17children it is often misdiagnosed as a psychiatric condition,
18and
19     WHEREAS, while treatment of and cure for RSDS is complex,
20early recognition and proper management may lead to the
21prevention of a crippling condition, and
22     WHEREAS, the North Florida RSD/CRPS Support Group and the
23Internet website RSDCare.org were founded by Jacksonville
24resident Tanya Kee, a victim of RSDS, with the goal of
25increasing awareness of RSDS and focusing on positive ways of
26dealing with this disease, NOW, THEREFORE,

28Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
29Florida:

31     That the House of Representatives designates the month of
32August 2004 as "Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome Month" in
33Florida and urges all residents of the state to gain a better
34understanding of the symptoms associated with this disease and
35the ever-present struggles endured by RSDS sufferers.
