5 | WHEREAS, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome, also known |
6 | as Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome, is a chronic condition |
7 | characterized by severe, burning pain, pathological changes in |
8 | bone and skin, excessive sweating, tissue swelling, and extreme |
9 | sensitivity to touch, and |
10 | WHEREAS, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome, or RSDS, is |
11 | most often the result of trauma to the extremities; however, it |
12 | may also be a consequence of sprains, fractures, surgery, damage |
13 | to blood vessels or nerves, and cerebral lesions, and |
14 | WHEREAS, not a rare disorder, all age groups are |
15 | susceptible to RSDS, although it is more common in individuals |
16 | between the ages of 40 and 60, particularly women, and in |
17 | children it is often misdiagnosed as a psychiatric condition, |
18 | and |
19 | WHEREAS, while treatment of and cure for RSDS is complex, |
20 | early recognition and proper management may lead to the |
21 | prevention of a crippling condition, and |
22 | WHEREAS, the North Florida RSD/CRPS Support Group and the |
23 | Internet website RSDCare.org were founded by Jacksonville |
24 | resident Tanya Kee, a victim of RSDS, with the goal of |
25 | increasing awareness of RSDS and focusing on positive ways of |
26 | dealing with this disease, NOW, THEREFORE, |

28 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
29 | Florida: |

31 | That the House of Representatives designates the month of |
32 | August 2004 as "Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome Month" in |
33 | Florida and urges all residents of the state to gain a better |
34 | understanding of the symptoms associated with this disease and |
35 | the ever-present struggles endured by RSDS sufferers. |
