5 | WHEREAS, Spc. Pat Tillman was killed in the line of duty on |
6 | April 22, 2004, at the age of 27, while serving in Afghanistan |
7 | as a member of the United States Army's Second Battalion, 75th |
8 | Ranger Regiment, and |
9 | WHEREAS, Pat Tillman chose to forego great financial and |
10 | personal rewards as a member of the Arizona Cardinals in the |
11 | National Football League and instead risked, and ultimately |
12 | lost, his life in defense of freedom and his country, and |
13 | WHEREAS, Pat Tillman believed that, despite his status as a |
14 | professional athlete, his willingness to serve in the military |
15 | was no more remarkable than that of his fellow service men and |
16 | women, and |
17 | WHEREAS, Pat Tillman, out of humility and deference to his |
18 | brothers and sisters in the Armed Forces, demonstrated that |
19 | belief by avoiding media attention and even declining to attend |
20 | the popular ESPN ESPY award ceremony, at which he and his |
21 | brother Kevin, also an Army Ranger, were to receive the Arthur |
22 | Ashe Courage Award, and |
23 | WHEREAS, Pat Tillman displayed a sense of honor and duty |
24 | that transcended any desire for fame or riches, the comforts of |
25 | home, or even regard for his own safety and thus provides us |
26 | with an example of character and dignity which is worthy of |
27 | emulation, NOW, THEREFORE, |

29 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
30 | Florida: |

32 | That the House of Representatives pauses to honor the |
33 | memory of Spc. Pat Tillman, Second Battalion, 75th Ranger |
34 | Regiment, United States Army, and to express its sorrow at his |
35 | death and its gratitude for his selfless service to his country. |
36 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
37 | presented to Mrs. Marie Tillman, widow of Pat Tillman, and to |
38 | his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Tillman, Sr., as a tangible |
39 | token of the sentiments expressed herein. |
