2 A resolution recognizing and expressing
3 heartfelt gratitude to the 38 U.S. states and 2
4 Canadian provinces that provided relief workers
5 and equipment to help restore electrical power
6 to Florida in the long aftermath of Hurricanes
7 Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne.

9 WHEREAS, the four major hurricanes that struck Florida
10 in August and September of 2004 damaged or destroyed vital
11 infrastructure in nearly all 63 of the state's counties,
12 leaving millions of residents and visitors without power for
13 many weeks at a time between August 13 and October 1, and
14 WHEREAS, Hurricane Charley left 1.7 million people
15 without power, Hurricane Frances left 2.9 million people
16 without power, Hurricane Ivan left 443,000 people without
17 power, and Hurricane Jeanne left 2.9 million people without
18 power, and in Hardee County the entire power-delivery
19 structure was completely destroyed, and
20 WHEREAS, the severity of the recurrent battering of
21 Florida in August and September greatly overtaxed the
22 capability of state and local government and Florida's
23 electric utility companies to restore power, compromising the
24 safety, security, and health of residents and businesses, and
25 WHEREAS, 38 U.S. states and 2 Canadian provinces
26 responded to Florida's crisis by sending thousands of
27 power-restoration workers, along with the necessary equipment,
28 to rebuild the state's electric power infrastructure, and
29 WHEREAS, these states and provinces are: Alabama,
30 Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut,
31 Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky,

1 Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota,
2 Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New
3 Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio,
4 Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South
5 Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia,
6 Wisconsin, Ontario, and Quebec, and
7 WHEREAS, Floridians in thousands of our communities
8 have had personal opportunities to express their gratitude
9 directly to the relief workers who came to Florida and worked
10 tirelessly to repair the hurricane damage, and
11 WHEREAS, the members of the Florida Senate also wish to
12 express enthusiastic gratitude for the vital support provided
13 by these states and provinces and for the generous personal
14 efforts extended by the individuals who came to Florida's
15 rescue, NOW, THEREFORE,

17 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
18
19 That the Florida Senate pauses in its deliberations to
20 honor those workers who came to the aid of this state
21 following the hurricanes of 2004 and to express its gratitude
22 for the generous support of the states and provinces that sent
23 workers and equipment.
