  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing RESPECT of Florida for

  3         promoting quality jobs for Floridians with

  4         disabilities.

  5  

  6         WHEREAS, it is the policy of the State of Florida to

  7  encourage and assist individuals with disabilities, including

  8  severe disabilities, to achieve maximum personal independence

  9  through useful and productive employment, enhancing their

10  dignity and minimizing their dependence on public support, and

11         WHEREAS, more than 70 percent of individuals with

12  disabilities, including individuals with severe disabilities,

13  in the state are unemployed, and

14         WHEREAS, RESPECT of Florida has provided thousands of

15  jobs for individuals with disabilities, including severe

16  disabilities for more than 30 years, and

17         WHEREAS, RESPECT of Florida creates industries that

18  contribute to the economies of local communities in the state,

19  and

20         WHEREAS, RESPECT of Florida provides a valuable service

21  to the state and is a nationally recognized model program for

22  providing employment for persons with severe disabilities,

23  NOW, THEREFORE,

25  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

26  

27         That RESPECT of Florida is recognized as a necessary,

28  viable, and valuable means of carrying out the state's policy

29  of promoting gainful employment for Floridians with

30  disabilities, including those with severe disabilities.
