11  The Committee on Education (Lynn) recommended the following
12  amendment:

14         Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 
15         Delete everything after the enacting clause
16  
17  and insert:  
18         Section 1.  Section 1003.456, Florida Statutes, is
19  created to read:
20         1003.456  Performing and fine arts;
21  assessment.--Recognizing the importance of maintaining a
22  balanced, well-rounded curriculum for students in this state,
23  the contributions of the performing and fine arts, and other
24  elective programs to the academic success of students, it is
25  the intent of the Legislature to ensure that elective programs
26  remain strong and accessible during the school day.
27         (1)  Each district school board shall develop a
28  performing and fine arts program that addresses this state's
29  rich cultural diversity and promotes creative thinking and
30  problem-solving skills of students. Each student shall be
31  allowed sufficient time and access to instruction in order to

Florida Senate - 2005 COMMITTEE AMENDMENT Bill No. SB 126 Barcode 853068 1 acquire knowledge and skills in the performing and fine arts, 2 which shall be defined by and assessed against the Sunshine 3 State Standards. 4 (2) Each district school board shall adopt written 5 policies for providing time and access to the performing and 6 fine arts for prekindergarten through grade 12 and shall 7 provide a copy of the policies to the Department of Education 8 by January 1, 2006. 9 (3) Each district school board shall provide an annual 10 report to the Department of Education on trends and student 11 achievement in the performing and fine arts for 12 prekindergarten through grade 12 and the department shall 13 summarize and disseminate the reports to each school district. 14 Section 2.
