| 5 | A bill to be entitled |
| 6 | An act relating to Veterans' Day; requiring school |
| 7 | districts to observe Veterans' Day; prohibiting holding |
| 8 | classes on that day; providing exceptions; providing an |
| 9 | effective date. |

| 11 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
| 12 |

| 13 | Section 1. Each school district must observe November 11 |
| 14 | of each year as the Veterans' Day holiday. Classes may not be |
| 15 | held on such holiday for any reason except to make up for |
| 16 | classes that were previously cancelled due to inclement weather, |
| 17 | for the protection of the health, safety, or welfare of students |
| 18 | or faculty, or as a result of a declared state of emergency. If |
| 19 | November 11 falls on a Saturday or Sunday, a school holiday |
| 20 | shall not be observed. |
| 21 | Section 2. This act shall take effect January 1, 2006. |
