1 Senate Resolution No. ____
2 A resolution recognizing September 2005 as
3 Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in Florida and
4 commending the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of
5 Florida--Gulf Coast.

7 WHEREAS, approximately 25,000 women are diagnosed with
8 ovarian cancer in the United States every year, with 80
9 percent of women diagnosed in the late stages of cancer, and
10 WHEREAS, ovarian cancer is the most deadly of the
11 gynecological cancers, with over 16,000 women in the United
12 States dying from ovarian cancer annually, and
13 WHEREAS, if diagnosed and treated at an early stage,
14 survival rates among ovarian cancer patients increase
15 dramatically, and
16 WHEREAS, the risks and symptoms of ovarian cancer are
17 not well known by the public, and
18 WHEREAS, the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Florida--Gulf
19 Coast is dedicated to public education related to ovarian
20 cancer through programs that raise awareness of the disease
21 and promote education regarding its risks and symptoms, and
22 WHEREAS, it is appropriate for all the residents of the
23 State of Florida to learn more about ovarian cancer and to
24 recognize the efforts of the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of
25 Florida--Gulf Coast as it promotes Ovarian Cancer Awareness
26 Month in our state, NOW, THEREFORE,

28 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

30 That the Florida Senate designates September 2005 as
31 Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in Florida and commends the

1 Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Florida--Gulf Coast for its efforts
2 to educate people about this deadly disease, thereby promoting
3 early diagnosis of the disease and helping to save lives.
4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
5 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Carolyn
6 Benivegna, President and Founder of the Ovarian Cancer
7 Alliance of Florida, as a tangible token of the sentiments of
8 the Florida Senate.
