1 Senate Resolution No. ____
2 A resolution congratulating the Tampa Police
3 Department on its reaccreditation by the
4 Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement
5 Agencies for the sixth consecutive time, and
6 commending the department for having taken
7 extraordinary steps in delivering quality law
8 enforcement service to the community.

10 WHEREAS, the Tampa Police Department has a long history
11 of valiant and dedicated service to the Tampa community,
12 dating back to its inception in 1887, and
13 WHEREAS, the Commission on Accreditation for Law
14 Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) reaccredited the Tampa Police
15 Department on July 31, 2004, for yet another 3-year term, and
16 WHEREAS, the Tampa Police Department is one of only two
17 agencies in the United States to have been reaccredited by
18 CALEA six consecutive times, and is the only agency of its
19 size to have done so, and
20 WHEREAS, to achieve accredited status, an agency must
21 comply with all 439 CALEA performance standards during a
22 rigorous on-site assessment that involves a public information
23 hearing, standards documentation reviews, ride-alongs, and
24 interviews with sworn officers and civilian personnel, and
25 WHEREAS, in complying with the CALEA performance
26 standards, the Tampa Police Department has shown that its
27 members and staff vigorously embrace the intent of the
28 Legislature set forth in section 943.125, Florida Statutes,
29 and
30 WHEREAS, the intent of the Legislature in section
31 943.125, Florida Statutes, is that law enforcement agencies

1 should adopt high and meaningful standards for their officers
2 and personnel in order to provide equal and fair enforcement
3 of the law, maximize crime prevention and control
4 capabilities, and increase interagency cooperation throughout
5 the state, and
6 WHEREAS, the Tampa Police Department has more than
7 1,350 sworn and civilian personnel who work together to make
8 meeting these high standards possible, NOW, THEREFORE,

10 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
11
12 That the Senate congratulates the Tampa Police
13 Department for being reaccredited for the sixth consecutive
14 time by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement
15 Agencies and commends the department's officers and staff for
16 providing outstanding law enforcement service on a daily basis
17 to more than 300,000 residents of the Tampa community.
