6 | Section 29. Subsection (3) of section 101.001, Florida |
7 | Statutes, is amended to read: |
8 | 101.001 Precincts and polling places; boundaries.-- |
9 | (3)(a) Each supervisor of elections shall maintain a |
10 | suitable map drawn to a scale no smaller than 3 miles to the |
11 | inch and clearly delineating all major observable features such |
12 | as roads, streams, and railway lines and showing the current |
13 | geographical boundaries of each precinct, representative |
14 | district, and senatorial district, and other type of district in |
15 | the county subject to the elections process in this code. |
16 | (b) The supervisor of elections shall notify the Secretary |
17 | of State in writing within 30 days after of any reorganization |
18 | of precincts and shall furnish a copy of the map showing the |
19 | current geographical boundaries and designation of each new |
20 | precinct. However, if precincts are composed of whole census |
21 | blocks, the supervisor may furnish, in lieu of a copy of the |
22 | map, a list, in an electronic format prescribed by the |
23 | Department of State, associating each census block in the county |
24 | with its precinct. |
25 | (c) Any precinct established or altered under the |
26 | provisions of this section shall consist of areas bounded on all |
27 | sides only by: |
28 | 1. Visible features that are readily distinguishable upon |
29 | the ground, such as streets, railroad tracks, streams, and |
30 | lakes, and that are indicated upon current census maps, official |
31 | Department of Transportation maps, official municipal maps, |
32 | official county maps, or a combination of such maps; |
33 | 2. The boundaries of public parks, public school grounds, |
34 | or churches; or |
35 | 3. The boundaries of counties and incorporated |
36 | municipalities. |
37 | (d) Until July 1, 2012, a supervisor may apply for and |
38 | obtain from the Secretary of State a waiver of the requirement |
39 | in paragraph (c). |
