| 6 | An act relating to caregivers for adults; creating the |
| 7 | Seniors Offering Services pilot program in Pinellas and |
| 8 | Hillsborough Counties to be conducted by the Department of |
| 9 | Elderly Affairs; providing purposes; providing an |
| 10 | effective date. |

| 12 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
| 13 |
|
| 14 | Section 1. Seniors Offering Services pilot program.--The |
| 15 | Department of Elderly Affairs may conduct a Seniors Offering |
| 16 | Services pilot program in Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties. |
| 17 | The Senior Community Service Employment program shall provide |
| 18 | the necessary training for the pilot program. The purposes of |
| 19 | the pilot program are: |
| 20 | (1) To foster the development of training and employment |
| 21 | opportunities for economically disadvantaged workers 55 years of |
| 22 | age and older that are critical to the provision of community- |
| 23 | based and institutional care for frail and vulnerable adults who |
| 24 | live in the community. |
| 25 | (2) To assist in meeting the growing demand for in-home |
| 26 | companion care services and prevent costly premature |
| 27 | institutional placement. |
| 28 | (3) To become a direct referral resource for the |
| 29 | department. |
| 30 | Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2005. |
