1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to parks and recreational
3 facilities; amending s. 418.12, F.S.;
4 authorizing the Division of Recreation and
5 Parks of the Department of Environmental
6 Protection to erect signs discouraging criminal
7 activity in recreation centers and playgrounds;
8 providing an effective date.

10 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12 Section 1. Subsection (7) is added to section 418.12,
13 Florida Statutes, to read:
14 418.12 Duties and functions of Division of Recreation
15 and Parks.--Among its functions, the Division of Recreation
16 and Parks of the Department of Environmental Protection shall:
17 (1) Study and appraise the recreation needs of the
18 state and assemble and disseminate information relative to
19 recreation;
20 (2) Provide consultation assistance to the Department
21 of Community Affairs and to local governing units as to the
22 promotion, organization, and administration of local
23 recreation systems and as to the planning and design of local
24 recreation areas and facilities;
25 (3) Assist in recruiting, training, and placing
26 recreation personnel;
27 (4) Sponsor and promote recreation institutes,
28 workshops, seminars, and conferences throughout the state;
29 (5) Cooperate with state and federal agencies, private
30 organizations, and commercial and industrial interests in the
31 promotion of a state recreation program; and

1 (6) Coordinate recreation functions and facilities of
2 flood control and water management districts; and.
3 (7) Erect suitable markers in each playground and
4 recreation center which indicate that any criminal activity
5 occurring on the premises will be prosecuted in accordance
6 with the Florida Statutes.
7 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
8 law.
