  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to pharmaceutical purchasing

  3         practices; requiring the Agency for Health Care

  4         Administration and the Department of Management

  5         Services to conduct studies related to

  6         pharmaceutical purchasing practices; providing

  7         purpose; requiring a report to the Legislature;

  8         providing an effective date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11  

12         Section 1.  Pharmaceutical purchasing practices.--

13         (1)  The Agency for Health Care Administration shall

14  conduct a study to determine the cost savings associated with

15  the importation of pharmaceuticals for Medicaid recipients in

16  the state.

17         (2)  The Department of Management Services shall

18  conduct a study to determine the cost savings associated with

19  the importation of pharmaceuticals for members of the state

20  group health insurance plan or their covered dependents, or to

21  subscribers or covered dependents of a health maintenance

22  organization plan under the state group insurance program.

23         (3)  The purpose of the studies required under

24  subsections (1) and (2) is to identify more fiscally

25  responsible pharmaceutical purchasing practices for

26  state-funded prescription plans.

27         (4)  The Agency for Health Care Administration and the

28  Department of Management Services shall each report the

29  results of their respective studies to the President of the

30  Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives by

31  August 26, 2005.

 1         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

 2  law.
