  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to court interpreters;

  3         requiring that the Supreme Court establish

  4         standards and procedures for the certification,

  5         discipline, and training of court interpreters;

  6         authorizing the Supreme Court to set fees and

  7         to appoint personnel to assist the court;

  8         requiring revenue generated by such fees to be

  9         used for administering the certification

10         process; providing an effective date.

12  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13  

14         Section 1.  The Supreme Court shall establish minimum

15  standards and procedures for qualifications, certification,

16  professional conduct, discipline, and training of court

17  interpreters who are appointed by a court of competent

18  jurisdiction. The Supreme Court may set fees to be charged to

19  applicants for certification and renewal of certification. The

20  revenues generated from these fees shall be used to offset the

21  costs of administration of the certification process. The

22  Supreme Court may appoint or employ such personnel as is

23  necessary to assist the court in administering this section.

24         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2005.

27                          SENATE SUMMARY

28    Requires the Supreme Court to establish standards and
      procedures for certifying court interpreters. Authorizes
29    the Supreme Court to set fees and appoint personnel to
      assist the court in establishing such procedures and
30    standards for court interpreters.
