11 The Committee on Education (Wise) recommended the following
12 amendment:

15 On page 5, between lines 28 and 29,

17 insert:
18 Section 5. The Department of Education shall
19 identify whether there is a need for cost categories in the
20 Florida Education Finance Program for Career and Professional
21 Academy career education courses or programs that utilize
22 technology, equipment, materials, and consumable supplies
23 reflective of industry requirements and/or industry
24 certification requirements. If the department determines there
25 is a need to weight enrollment in such courses or programs,
26 the department shall recommend weighted enrollment funding
27 for each proposed cost category for use in the Florida
28 Education Finance Program by December 1, 2005 to the Governor,
29 President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of
30 Representatives.

1 and Improvement shall monitor and study how Career and
2 Professional Academies are implemented in the state. The
3 following shall be the major focus of the study:determine
4 whether and how much postsecondary course credit is awarded to
5 students and whether that credit is transferable to other
6 institutions beside the postsecondary partner; determine the
7 extent to which courses are articulating to higher
8 certificates and degrees; determine if there is a better way
9 to coordinate a seamless progression for students in a Career
10 and Professional Academy program from middle school through
11 high school and postsecondary education; and make
12 recommendations for future changes for oversight and
13 coordination of career education courses and programs. The
14 report and recommendations shall be submitted to the Governor,
15 the President of the Senate , and the Speaker of the House of
16 Representatives by December 1, 2007.
