1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to independent living
3 transition services; amending s. 409.1451,
4 F.S.; allowing young adults who are not
5 eligible for the Road-to-Independence
6 Scholarship to continue to receive all foster
7 care services until they reach 21 years of age;
8 providing an effective date.

10 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12 Section 1. Present subsection (9) of section 409.1451,
13 Florida Statutes, is redesignated as subsection (10), and a
14 new subsection (9) is added to that section to read:
15 409.1451 Independent living transition services.--
16 (9) OPTIONAL CONTINUED FOSTER CARE TO AGE 21.--A young
17 adult who is not eligible for the Road-to-Independence
18 Scholarship may choose to remain in foster care and continue
19 to receive all the services of the children's foster care
20 program until the young adult reaches the age of 21 years.
21 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2005.

24 SENATE SUMMARY
25 Allows a young adult to choose to receive all foster care
services and remain in the foster care system until the
26 age of 21 if the young adult is not eligible for the
Road-to-Independence Scholarship.
