1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to the Department of Law
3 Enforcement; amending s. 943.13, F.S.;
4 requiring all officers, as a minimum
5 qualification for employment or appointment, to
6 attend a specified amount of training on how to
7 use a taser gun as a means of restraining and
8 arresting individuals suspected of criminal
9 activity; providing an effective date.

11 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13 Section 1. Subsection (12) is added to section 943.13,
14 Florida Statutes, to read:
15 943.13 Officers' minimum qualifications for employment
16 or appointment.--On or after October 1, 1984, any person
17 employed or appointed as a full-time, part-time, or auxiliary
18 law enforcement officer or correctional officer; on or after
19 October 1, 1986, any person employed as a full-time,
20 part-time, or auxiliary correctional probation officer; and on
21 or after October 1, 1986, any person employed as a full-time,
22 part-time, or auxiliary correctional officer by a private
23 entity under contract to the Department of Corrections, to a
24 county commission, or to the Department of Management Services
25 shall:
26 (12) Complete 100 hours of training in the use of
27 tasers as a means of restraining and arresting individuals
28 suspected of criminal activity.
29 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2005.

3 Provides that as a minimum qualification for employment
or appointment, all law enforcement officers must

in the line of duty.
